LOCAL GALLS. The City Fire Brigade turned out very smartly on Saturday afternoon to an outbreak in the basement of the Dunedin Catholic Depot in -Moran’s buildings in the Octagon. The -fire -originated in a brick-walled room occupied by Mr T. De Spong, and the firemen had some difficulty in _ reaching the spot, as the tire had gained a good hold, and there was a great I amount of smoke issuing from the now. However, within a quarter of an hour, by which time two leads had been put into operation—one. iu Bath street -and the r ther in the Octagon—the brigade had the situation under control. The stock, which consisted for the most part of fancy and theatrical costumes, was badly damaged, and other rooms in the building were affected by the smoke, -although the fire did not actually reaoa them. . A chimney fire in Child street, Roslyn, was responsible for the engine turning out at C pan. -on. Saturday. At 8,26 pan. two calk were received simultaneously, both proving to be! Justifiable false alarms. One came from Keiia Ramsay’s stores near the wharf and the other was registered from the corner of King Edwarar and Bay View roads. A chimney fire m Marion -street, Caversham, required the attention of -the brigade at 12.10 pan. yesterday, and there was a similar outbreak in Wain’s Hotel, Princes street, at. 1.28 pan. No damage was done in either case.
