, The monthly meeting of the' Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon, and was attended, by Messrs J. Wilson (chairman), W. A. Scott, J. L. Salmond, A., Burn, S. B. Macdonald, and C. The calls were catalogued as follows:—Fifes-22, rubbish and bush 6, chimney .fires 16, malicious false alarms (by "telephone 6, by street alarm boxes 3), justifiable 9, automatic 4, and accidental false alarms 2. Fires occurred in the premises of Mr J. H Millow, Castle street, the Otago Brush Company (Cumberland street), and Messrs Powley and Co. (Hope street), and also in a dwelling in Clifford street, Dalmore, and in the old Scotia Hotel buildings, at the corner of Leith and Dundas streets. No' serious damage was done at any of these fires. Two stacks were destroyed at Wak.ari and three others which were in danger were saved He’regretted to! have to report the death of, an old lady who was burned in her home in Rankeilor street. A young woman and a Chinese were burned when a petrol service station caught fire, A young woman injured her ankle when she jumped from a window of a burning-building.- Several persons had to be removed through a window at the fire in the'old Scotia buildings. The .alarm point authorised to be placed at the corner of View street and Moray place had been erected. . Two automatic installations had been connected to the central station. The pressure, recorded for the month was: Central station- (midnight)’ 1101 b; -..(n00n) 651 b; South Dunedin station (9 a.m.) 60lb, (9 p.m;) 1651 b. The SoVith Dunedin station was occupied on April 1, 1917, and the machine "turned out from there on its one thousandth call on June 16 this year. The . St." John Ambulance . machines received 111 calls, and travelled 666 miles during the month. The brigade staff was at full strength, and all the plant was in good order. —The report was adopted. The General Committee reported that j requisitions for various stores had been ; approved, and that accounts" amounting to £3164 13s 7d had been passed for payment.
