COMMERCE EX-STUDENTS.
MOCK COMPANY MEETING. With thd object of making members more familiar with the preparation of reports and balance sheets and the intricacies of the Companies Act, the Otago University Commerce Faculty Ex-students’ Association held a mock ‘ company meeb ing last night. Mr E. R. Grace was the official chairman, though Mr P, O. Smellie presided at the mock coinpany meeting, at which Mr Grace filled - the position of auditor. . Messrs W. and D. Brown were directors and Mr W. J. MTnnes solicitor. The report and financial statements, which AA'cre draivn up for circulation at the meeting, bristled with irregularities, legal and otherwise, no' fewer than 40 points requiring explanation and eliciting questions from the “shareholders.” In the face of opposition the annual report and financial statements were adopted, although the ingenuity of the chairman and officers was pressed to the utmost in repelling over-ardent questioners. The customary appointment of directors and auditors was not carried out without breezy discussion, the members of the association deriving both amusement and instruction from the meeting.
