A proposal that the Government be aeked to conduct State lotteries for the upkeep of hospital and charitable aid boards was submitted to the Farmers’ Umon conference, this evening, but after a brief debate was thrown out. Mr J. Pow was proceeding to read particulars of the State lottery ‘run by the Wueensland Government when a delegate objected to anything being introduced on penalt of someone not present. A member: Don’t you send your money to Hobart? The chairman (Mr W. J. I can see no harm in it, but why send our money to Tasmania? The chairman replied that he could not rule the remit out of order, but it would P e unfortunate if they seriously discussed it. It would create a wrong impression ln the mmcis of the public if they did. Mr Rushworth moved that ,the question be put. Mr O P. Lynch; I think it is a most extraordinary thing to have the-chairman prejudicing a motion on .the order paper before we have heard it. I never heard such a preposterous business iB my life. It is extraordinary, I am prepared to move the remit. The chairman then put the question, which he said would, if carried, have the effect of excluding the remit. r This was put and carried, and the dis-. cussion closed.
