The Kawatlrl arrived yesterday from Westport, via Lyttelton, with a part cargo of coal. On completion, of discharge, the Kawatlrl will dock at Port Chalmers. to complete her survey. She will sail about Saturday for West- ' port. ■ The Karetu is due at Dunedin this morning ' from Sydney and Melbourne, via Bluff, to discharge general, cargo. She is to sail to-night for Lyttelton and Wellington. to complete discharge. The Holmdale is due -at Dunedin to-morrow from Wellington, to discharge and 'load general cargo. She is timed to, sail to-morrow night for Oamaru, Timaru, ’Lyttelton, Wellington and Wanganui. . The Progress has been fixed to load general cargo' at Dunedin on Friday for New Plymouth and Pert Waikato. \ The Kekerangu arrived at Lyttelton on Monday from Newcastle with the first cargo of coal to be brought from that port for about a year. She will complete discharge at Timaru c The Canadian Government steamer Canadian Transporter, which, after loading at New Zealand ports, left Auckland for New York, Boston and Montreal on May 6. arrived at New York on June 11. The Bank Line motor ship Welrbank, from Chile, arrived at Auckland on Monday. The vessel brought 7800 tons of nitrates for discharge, at Auckland, and Australian ports. A new fog signal has been erected by the Auckland Harbour Board on" ,the eastern vehicular ferry landing and Is now ready for use when required. It consists of an electric-ally-driven whistle, giving a continuous series of short blasts. Mr W. K. Douglas, chief engineer on the Gale, and Mr K. Gaston, chief engineer on the Storm, have exchanged positions. WAIHEMO FROM PACIFIC COAST. The Union Company advises that the Walhemo Is due at Napier on Saturday from Pacific coast ports. The vessel has general mer--chandlse for discharge at Napier, Lyttelton, Dunedlni Bluff, Nelson and New Plymouth, She Is due at this port about July 3. COAL FROM PORT KEMBLA. The Union Company advises that the* steamer Omana left Port Kembla on Monday with a cargo of coal for discharge at Bluff and Dunedin. She should arrive at this port about June 25, The Omana Is of 2550 tons gross register and has been engaged In the Intercolonial coal and timber trade for several years. She was recently taken over "by the Union Company. - i PORT FREMANTLE FROM LONDON. . The Commonwealth and Dominion Line's r 1 ’steamer Port Fremantle, which left London for Auckland and Dunedin on May 23, sailed from Curacao on June XI. The-vessel is due at Auckland on June 26. r -O ; STEAMER SURREY BUFFETED. An exceptionally stormy voyage was that of the steamer Surrey, which arrived at Sydney recently from London, via New York. The Surrey left London on March 25, and encountered terrific gales-In the Atlantic, which made' her six ‘days overdue In reaching New • York, where she had to be docked for a fortnight while repairs were carried out. She received -structural damage, her steering gear was buckled, .and twrt of her crew were Injured.

Argyllshire, which left "on May 24; sailed from Curacao on June 11. The vessel Is due at'Auckland on July 1. CADETS FOB MERCANTILE MARINE. 1 The British -India steamer Nardana has been converted into a cadet training ship,' and on Her arrival at Sydney recently had 39 emhryo officers on hoard. *The Nardana * replaces the ■ former training ship Woodarra, Which has been sold, and she is now the chief cadet ship of the line. The Australia Is the other, but carries fewer cadets.'
