FATALITIES IN AMERICA. FLYERS MEET THEIR DEATHS. NEW YORK, May 31. Memorial Day, observed as a close holiday throughout the United States, took the usual toll of lives. At Winchester, Indiana, four people were killed and 20 injured when a .racing car on a speedway crashed into the grand stand. The driver was only slightly hurt, ’ A ’■woman, whose husband was among the injured, tossed her baby to safety over the heads of the people near her. ' At Fairmount, West Virginia, an aeroplane crashed after looping the loop, killing the pilot and gravely injuring a passenger. . ' z At Oklahoma City a cadet flyer was killed in a parachute leap. His companion landed, safely. -' At Chandler airport, Arizona, a. pilot and'a student flyer were killed. The pilot’s wife was awaiting the landing of the aeroplane to go aloft and make a parachute jump. * A fishing boat, with 60 passengers, ran into heavy weather off Santa Monica, listed, and capsized. It is reported that 10 were drowned. Darkness made difficult the task of accounting for the passengers. An aviator was killed at the Mount Vernon (Illinois) fair grounds. He carried three parachutes, intending to use them consecutively. Two failed to, open and the third became entangled. '
