OBITUARY
MR T. J. PRICE. ■ The death occurred at his residence, Delhi street, Riverton, recently, of Mr Thomas James Price, after an illness extending over a considerable period. Mr - Price' was born at Kington, Herefordshire,’- England, in; 1862; ahd ; emigrated to New Zealand in -1888. After an engagement with the firm of Messrs Wilkinson and Co., he*set up business for himself as a pharmaceutist .at Green Island and later at Invercargill, removirig- to Riverton a little over 20 years ago and taking over the Riverton Pharmacy from Mr Blpmfield. Mr Price was a lover of music and at various times was a member of musical societies. As a man and a gentleman he endeared himself to all who knew him, and, he possessed, a wide circle of friends who will learn of Ms death with'deep regret He leaves a,widow,' two daughters and one eon. . - . / MR ARTHUR GERHARD. . : , , . , (SPECIAt TO DAttV’TljiES.) ; - ’ INVERCARGILL, June 16. The ‘ deceased had •been- ailing -ibi some time, and his death, was "not unexpected. -;Mr GerTard whs born at 'Waihola in 1864 t While fie was yeta bpy his people removed to the Winton district, and .he received his education at the Limehills School. x In 1880 he was married. to Margaret Jack, daughter of the late Mr Francis Jack, of Gap road.; The deceased, was brought x up to farming, .and for the greater part of his life wag identified with, the .land. He , owned the Lowood farm, - in. the Winton. district, and on disposing of 1 fie bought Te Anau Downs stotiqn ,in the year u loot; : He sobl-;tbi^ , piftperty in 1917, dhd. in -conjunction with four of •his sons he bought the Rock . estate, Dipton, A year later he himself retired and went to live in Winton, where he busied himself with horses. In his younger days he. took an active part’in athletics, and' being a fearless and successful cross-country . rider he won numerous competitions over-jumps at A. and P. shows and hunt club inlets. The deceased also had a great reputation as a trainer, and he turned but many- winners in all branches of the sport of racing,- including the- first winner ’of the Invercargill Trotting Cup (Erin Chimes). - ' . ‘ M. Lucicn Klotz, 1 formerly: French' Minister of Finance. 1 -M. Lucicn Klotz, who wan born in 1868, was a member of several Governments and he took a leading part in framing the financial section of the Treaty of Versailles.
