LADIES’ HOCKEY;. - ■ The opening matches under the rearranged series of fixtures for the South .Otago Association’s shield competition were played on Saturday afternoon in fine weather. The principal match was between Milto n and Bruce A teams, in which Milton proved victorious by three foals to nil, the coals being registered by liases K. Scott,'G. Vidal, and M. Scott. Milton B team defeated Lawrence by two goals to one. Bruce B had the bye. . GOLF MATCH. A team from the Toko Club visited Kai-; tangata bn Saturday afternoon for . a match against that club. -Toko won by 12J matches to 7J. OBITUARY. , The funeral took place at Fairfax Cemetery on Saturday afternoon of a well-known and highly-esteemed resident of Milton district, in the person of Mr James Skeldon Inglis, of “Mount Steep” farm, whose death occurred in a private hospital at Dunedin. The deceased, who was aged 50 years, had been in failing health for a considerable period. He‘ was a son of the late Mr James Inglis, who came to New Zealand in the Slip Robert Henderson in 1860., The deceased was of a quiet, unassuming disposition, but was an indefatigable worker .in many public activities. He was clerk for Tokomairiro Presbyterian Church for 27 years; for about 15 years he served as secretary of the Milton Co-operative Dairy Factory Company; was a former secretary of Milton branch of the Farmers’ Union; and for several years was a member of Toko Farmers’ Club Committee. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. The monthly sitting of the Milton Magistrate’s Court was held this morning, before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M. 1 H'aakin Sainnolson was charged with failing to comply with the terms of an order for the maintenance of a child in a State institution, c-.n winch the arrears amounted to £lO 15 s on April 23.' After evidence as. to defendant’s earnings, he was ordered to, pay ss' a week off tbe arrears. In respect to a claim by Harry Lindsay for £lB 10s against Bert Sellars on a judgment summons, the defendant was ordered to pay 7s Cd a week. Arthur Wong was ordered to pay at the rate of 20s per week on a judgment summons on a claim by Sydney Goddard for £8 15s 6d.
