HARRIERS.

SATURDAY’S RUNS. The Pacific Club ran from the Albany Street School, a good- muster turning out under the whistles of Captain Bond and Deputy-captain M'Laren. Paper was dispensed with, and the pack set off at a good pace down the Lower Port Chalmers -road. When Ravensbourne was reached the pack was split up, the fast pack reaching Burkes before turning for home. In a last run home several young runners showed up prominently. The St. Kilda Harriers held their .Open and Junior Two-mile Handicap. Seventeen runners faced the starter. The course led from the St. Kilda bathing pavilion along Lover's lane to St. Clair, round the children’s playground, and back by Victoria road, finishing at the St. Kilda tram terminus. The limit men set up a fast pace along the lane, but the back-markers were well placed when St. Clair was reached. Coming out of the lane the order was I. Still, A. Kerr, D. Robertson, with R. Orange next. From then on the back-markers were in the lead and cracked on the pace. In a close finish the placings in the Open were I. Still (35yds), C. Pope (scr.), and A. Bond' (60yds), and in the Junior, R. Orange (syds). H. A. Brown (10yds). and W. More (70yds). Time, limin'. The Leith Club ran as the guests ,of Mr.and Mrs Gerrard from-the Anglican Boys’ Home. Vauxhall. The paper was in the capable hands of S Anderson and J. Thomson. who laid a good trail over, splendid harrier country. From the’home the pack followed the trail to Tomahawk Lagoon, then over hilly country to the Soldier's Manument, From, there the pack had a run home, , which" resulted in 6. Ward, S. Parker, and H. Masters being ; first. ... The Caversham Harriers held their weekly run from the Garrison Hall, Port Chalmers, an attendance of 44 runners following a trying trail for which If. J. Roaehe and R. Woodfield . were,, responsible, The team for the Kennett Cup •held a flat training run for about- three miles, while intending Junior C.C. competitors followed the trail for about, a quarter of an hour before the main pack. Leaving the hall, the trail led along the Port-Dunedin road as far as Sawyers 5 Bay, and continued up over Tunnel Hill to the country below Mount Cargill. Here some thick bush was encountered (causing many uncomplimentary remarks to be passed about the.men with the paper) and traversed, the. trail then gradually turning back towards Sawyers’ Bay. The hilly nature of the country then covered caused many of .the runners to realise their lack of training, but when the run was over everyone seemed puite satisfied that the run was a thoroughly enjoyable one. A very enjoyable evening was spent afterwards, the club being the guests of the Port Chalmers Anglican Young Ladies 5 Club.

The Cargill Road Methodist Harriers held their weekly run from the Maori Hill Methodist Church.’ The pack, under the whistles of Penn and H. Ridley, had a fast and enjoy able, run.
