ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
TAMAKI BRIDGE SMASH. MB, DUTHIE S BODY FOUND. (Pee United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 22. The body of Alexander ' Duthie, of Waiuku, who was drowned in the Tamaki, .River, south ‘of Otahuhu, on Tuesday' night, after, his motor car, had crashed into the iron railings of the Trimaki bridge, was found in the upper Teaches of tlieriver this morning. .A riaddie. on the Middlemore golf links made the discovery, and the body was recovered soon afterwards by the police from where it was lying on the edge of the channel about a mile above the bridge. Before the body .was found, the police and several civilians' had thoroughly searched the river banks for some distance above and below the bridge, and had also dragged, the channel. An inquest was formally opened and adjourned. ■ V■’ FATAL jump from window. (Per United Press-Association.) . ■V ■ : ' ■ AUCKLAND, May 22. ; A verdict of suicide was returned by the coroner -(Mr F.. K. Hunt, SAL) 'at the Police Court concerning the death of George Somerville Hodgson, a labourer, aged 43, who succumbed to injuries received through jumping out of- a window, on -the third floor of Wallace ward at the Auckland Hospital. ,A‘brother gave evidence 1 that Hodgson bad been out ,of work for some time and was suffering from insomnia. He had seen his brother the day before he jumped out of the window; (April 7), arid he seemed quite cheerful.: , • ' DEATH FROM BURNS. (Per United Press Association.) MARTON, May 22. Mareana Potaka, known as Maeana Winiata, suffered, severe burns at the Maori Girls’ College yesterday, and died in hospital to-day. She was employed as a junior teacher, and was hurried to the hospital, but expired there. Her parentslive at Utiku. , A FATAL COLLISION. ( " 1 ■ (Per United, Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 22. A fatal accident occurred at Methyeu this evening, when a motor car driven by Lawrence SrKeridry crashed into , the rear of a gig, the occupants-of which .were Mrs'' High ley and Miss . Rachel Highley. Miss Highly received fatal injuries, and her mother was seriously hurt. ■ M’Kendry suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles were badly smashed. ' ' ;
GUNPOWDER EXPLOSION.
TWO BOYS INJURED. As a result of the unexpected explosion of gunpowder .with which ’ they were experimenting, two boys, Donald MTiennan, aged 17 years, and Norman Orange, aged 13, were admitted to the Hospital yesterday afternoon with serious injuries to their hands. MTiennan’s hand was almost entirely removed, and it will be necessary to have • the destroyed member amputated, The boy Orange resides at 29 Evans street, and the accident occurred at his companion’s home in Warden street, Opoho. /
