TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
•ANNUAL MEETING. v The annual meeting of the Taieri Agri-„ cultural Society was neld at Outram last’ night. Mr W. K. Kirk presided over a good attendance. The annual report stated, inter alia, that exhibitors had again shown their appreciation of the improvements to the show grounds by bringing forward their exhibits in increased numbers, the entries in the cattle sections being a record for the society. ; The quality, too, was up to the usual high standard.' The ladies also were well to the fore in their display of dairy produce and cookery. The annual show was held on the show grounds. Out* ram, on Saturday, November 16. Unfortunately, the weather was inclement, but, ir. spite of this, there was a good attendance of the public, and the judging ■ot the various sections passed off expeditiously. The grand parade of prize stock and the jumping competitions were again attractive features of the show.- It waswith regret that there had. to be recorded the death of five members of the society during the year, including Mr ' John Nimmo, who was a life member, and an active member'of the committee. The deepest sympathy was extended to their relatives. Six ordinary committee meetings were held during the year, and were well attended by the members. The annual social, which had become a popular function, had been held this year in Mbsgiel. There was a full hall, an excellent programme, and the winners received their trophies with the good wishes of all present. , The secretary (Mr John Williamson) submitted the balance sheet, which showed a satisfactory financial position.—The report and balance sheet were adopted. Prior to vacating the chair, the retiring president acknowledged the help he had received from committeemen and secretary. He trusted that, his successor would have a record year of prosperity and as pleasant a term of office as he had had. Mr W.'Goughian resigned ns a member of the committee.—The resignation was aefcepted with regret. Office-bearers were elected as follows: Presffient. Mr James Walker; vicc-presi-dent, Mr R.-1. Kirk; for the 13 vacancies on the committee—-Messrs John Campbell James Dow, jun., James Dow (Lee Creek) K - Kirk, John Matheson, Allan Miller, Forest Miller. Ford M'Hattie, Bruce Nichol, W. J. Reid, David Wallace James A. Wither, and John Young: auditor, Mr John Logan. A vote of. thanks was passed to the retiring president. Mr Janies A. Williamson was elected a life member. . It was decided that in lieu of collecting in the country district, as had been the practice in the past, members and subscribers’ tickets should be posted. A committee meeting followed the Ua nr' ne ? I , the v newly-elected presil* (Mr J. Walker) presiding. jhe Otago A. and P. Society forwarded a letter regarding a conference of delegates_ from the various agricultural societies to discuss show dates.—lt was resolved to ask for November 22 for taieri Show. The Canterbury A. and P, Association advised that the following were the association s fixtures for this year;—Winter Show, August 9 to 23; Summer Show, November 13 and 14.—Noted. It was decided to obtain an estimate as to cost of erection of a building for I the dairy produce section in place of 'he present marquees.
