MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held in the society's' board room yesterday afternoon, Mr W. O. M'Kellar presiding, A letter was received from the Canterbury., Agricultural and Pastoral Society stating that Mr Herdman, of Christchurch, had been appointed to represent the society at the Native Bird Protection Societies', conference. The secretary of the Clydesdale Horse '' Society wrote advising that his society was completely satisfied with the arrangements, to hold its council meeting; and the general meeting during Show Week. The Department of Agriculture submitted a report on the cheese competition which had been held last year. Particulars of excursion fares were forwarded by the railway traffic manager , These were considered entirely satisfactory. "'.'■.■. In connection with a letter which was received from the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board regarding the election of delegates to attend its conference, it was decided to confer with.the Sheep Owners' Association and to support itß candidates. A telegram was received from the Minister of Agriculture (Mr G. W. Forbes) accepting the committee's invitation to open the Winter Show officially on Saturday. May 31. The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce .submitted particulars of the changes iu connection with the Empire farmers* visit .-—The amount due aa the society's share of the* expense was passed for payment. The secretary submitted' particulars of the names of the judges and class stewards who had' been appointed for the forth" coming show. The secretary reported that arrangements had been made with Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., the New Zealand agents for the White Star Line, to have a model of the STajestic, the largest steamer affoat, displayed at the Winter Show, —Noted and approved. Accounts amounting to £196 16s 7d were passed for payment. Mr T. T. Ritchie, of Waitahuna, was elected a member of the society. In connection with the election of office-bearers to take place at the annual meeting the following nominations were approved:—Vice-president, Mr H. Turner; General Committee—Dunedin district Messrs Stuart Jones. P. J. Conn, and S. Howat; Bruce and Clutha, Messrs A. King and J. Sim; Palmerston and Waihemo, Messrs G. Ross and E. M. North; Taieri, Messrs J. Young and J. Johnson; Central Otago, Messrs A. M'Kinnon and J. Little.
