Said to have stolen from his employer’s house a golden sovereign, among other things, Frederick Holmes, aged 22, a labourer, of Preston, England, wna ignorant of ita value and sold it for 2s. This story was told at the Police Court, when Holmes was placed on probation. He would be about seven years of age when gold disappeared from the coinage.
