SALE OF WORK.

LOGAN PARK CROQUET CLUB. Yesterday afternoon a sale of work in aid of the funds of the Logan Park Croquet Club was held in the All Saints’ Schoolroom, Cumberland street. In opening the bazaar. Miss Jean Burt said that probably a few words about the origin of croquet in Dunedin would be interesting to those present. Croquet players owed a debt of gratitude to Mrs Beaumont, who first started croquet tn Dunedin as a regularly-controlled game The game was played on a private lawn, but this soon became too small to accommodate the players, and the offer of a piece of land belonging to the Balraacewen Bowling Club was accepted. This in turn became too small _ for the number of piayers, and sufficient ground to form several lawns was secured in Roslyn from the Reserves Committee of the City Council. Thus the Punga Club came into being, to be followed later by St, Clair and Leith. The Logan Park Croquet Club had now been started, with lawns at Logan Park. The purpose of the sole was to raise funds to complete the club’s pavilion, and the speaker expressed the hope that the proceeds would be entirely satisfactory to those responsible for organising the function. The following were in charge of the various stalls: —"Variety stall, Miss I. Beck; work stall, Mrs W. J. Robertson; produce stall, Mrs Munro: book stall, Mrs J. M. Rodger; cake stall.
