THE HOUSE OF LORDS

COAL BILL IN COMMITTEE. AMENDMENT REGARDING HOURS. ' (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—-Copyright.) LONDON, May 15. When the House of Lords was in committee on the Coal Bill, Lord Melchett moved that the seven-and-a-half-hour day should operate for four years, instead of the arrangement lapsing in July, 1931. This was rejected by 85 votes to 66, but Lord Gainsford’s amendment was carried by 123 to 10, enabling agreements to be made for working 90 hours a fortnight instead of seven and a-half hours daily. The committee stage has concluded.
