STOCKS -BREAK SHARPLY. THE BULLS DISCOURAGED. (United Press Association.) '{By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW YORK,. May 15. Stocks broke sharply on the New York Stock Exchange, and discouraged the bulls, who sold their holdings. The bears pressed the declines by further short sales. United States Steel and other pivotal shares dropped two to five points, while some issues lost as much as 21. Auburn Automobile once dropped 27J to the low level of 158. Selling became heavier through the day. The actual liquidation of some issues occurred near the close.
