AMERICAN GOLFERS
INVASION OF ENGLAND. THE WALKER CUP CONTEST. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph— Copyright.) LONDON, May 11. {Received May 12, at 5.5 p.m.) ' The attempt by the American golfers to.,capture all the ■B r itish ■ honours, including the retention of the Walker Cup and three championships, is not regarded as less likely of success because of defeat in the St. George’s Vase at Sandwich, when the youngest British walker,Cup player, the 24-year-old RexHartley, beat Dr Willing, who is 40 and the oldest American player, the scores being 79 and 85, after a tie with !48 on the previous day. Willing tied with Ouimet ,in the same competition in 1923, but he lost the replay by three strokes. ; ■ *The ■ form of some of the ' British players was so disappointing that certain critics urge that they should be replaced. The American invasion proper will begin in the women’s • championship tomorrow.,, ■- The Walker Cup will, be played at bandwich on Thursday and Friday.
