NEW ZEALAND TROTTING ASSOCIATION.

MEETING OF THE BOARD. A meeting of the board of tha New Zealand Trotting Association wo* hold in the Forbury Park Trotting Club'a rooms yesterday. The following members were present:—Messrs R. A. .Armstrong (chairman), J. R. M'Kenzic, S. W. Kelly, W. Hayward, J. B. Thomson, and R. A. Harley. On the recommendation of the Forbury Park Trotting Club and the Invercargill Trotting Club, the life disqualification on J. Russell was removed on account of'the state of his health. The Ashburton Trotting Club wrote stating that it had held an inquiry into the running of Scuttle, at its recent meeting.—After a brief discussion the board decided to hold the matter over till its next meeting. A report wa* received from the New Zealand Metropolitan .Trotting Club with reference to the driving of F. 6. Holmes in the Easter Handicap at its recent meeting. An inquiry had been held, and the explanation had been accepted.—Approved. The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club also reported that an inquiry into the alleged galloping'of Nighborn and the alleged inconsistent running of Harold Thorpe had been held and that no action had been taken.—Approved. The Wanganui Trotting Club wrote •ttaing that C. H. Stubb’s protest against H. G. Woodfield on the ground of inconsistent running by Baron Derby had not been sustained, and that Woodfield had been fined £5 for altering his hopples without permission.—The club's action in regard to the protest was endorsed, but it was decided to ask the club under what rule it had taken action against Woodfield. A letter from the Ha were Trotting Club stated that' C. King had been charged with handling Royal Silk In an unsatisfactory manner during a race. in the opinion of the club, King, who ad been cautioned for his action, had ridden a badly-judged race.—The action of the club wae endorsed. < The Gore Trotting Club wrote reporting that it had made further inquiry into the complaint by J. Q. Cruickshank that an unauthorised person had. assisted at the start of the Mataura Handicap' with the horse Keen Derby, and that the horse had interfered with his mare Merce Bingen. It was stated that the assistant was a stable hand. —It was decided that it be a recommendation to the club that any assistant at the barrier should be in no way connected with any stable or starter in the race. Mr F. J. Beer (stipendiary steward) wrote with reference to the bad behaviour of Vecto and Silverwood at the start of the Renown Handicap at Forbury Park on Thursday, stating that it had considerably delayed the start of the race. H° suggested that the owner of the horses be approached with a view to the withdrawal. of them from to-day’s engagements.—lt was decided to act on Mr Beer’s suggestion and also to refer the matter of the'behaviour of the horses to the executive with a view to giving the owner a chance to show cause why both should not be placed on the schooling list. The secretary of the Victorian Trotting and Racing Association wrote stating that the following disqualifications, which had been Imposed by the Terang Trotting Club on February 6, had been endorsed by the committee of the association: —L. J. King (owner), L. Holmes (driver), C. Robertson, jun., and the black stallion Nen Derby for six months for allegedly not trying to win the Trial Stakes at the Terang meeting. As a result the following horses bad incurred automatic disqualification :—Globe Greta, Brandon Bells, Harry Alto, Wilkes Child, larry Dixie, Happy Eyes, and Leading Style. The writer also stated that the following disqualification* imposed by the Dimboola Racing Club had been endorsed: —R. A. Gould (rider), B. Millard (trainer), and the, black stallion The Night Patrol for six months for alleged improper practices in connection irith the running of the handicap trot at the Dimboola meeting on February 8. The deaths of the following horses wero reported:—Jenny Bell, owned by Mr H. Hunter (Wyndham), and Xavier, owned by Mr A. Howard (Chaneys). The following programmes were approved:—South Canterbury Hunt, May 24 and July 26; Ashburton Trotting Club, June 14 instead of June 7. In regard to'the naming of horses it was decided to suggest to the conference that a horse should-be registered, at least a month prior to the date* of nomination. The next meeting of the board will bo held in Christchurch on June /2 at 10 a.m. '
