KING GEORGE’S NURSE.
, When the King lay at death’s door last year. Nurse Catherine Black, a gentle Irish girl, by ,her devoted service, helped to nurse him back to health. Recently, the King, hearing that Nurse ' Black herself was unwell, set aside other plana and hastened with the Queen to ber a London hospital, where member of the nursing staff. di , a i esties found that Nurse Black had' 1 ’ reached the convalescent stage. They spent a quarter of an hour chatting with her in the hospital committee room.
Nurse Black’s quiet, cheerful manner did much to restore the King to health, and for that reason she was afterwards invited by the Queen to accompany the Royal Family to Sandringham.- She was, in.fact, the only one of the four nurses who attended the King who was with him from the beginning of his illness to his convalescence. For her services the King a Warded her the Royal Red Cross (First Class).
