OLD IDENTITIES.
PORT CHALMERS ASSOCIATION. The routine business at the quarterly meeting of the Port Chalmers Old Identities’ Association last night was disposed of in a few minutes. Mr J. Farquharson, an ex-president of the association, said he was pleased to see so large an attendance of members present. He had a number of apologies, including one from the Minister of Railways (Sir W. B Taverner) and one from Mr A. E. Anaell, M.P. Mr Farquharson said that in recent years a special effort had been made to recall ,the experiences of pioneer liftmore realistically by means of historical plays. Mrs Morgan and her concert party were presenting a new play that evening. It showed a social evening at Mr Johnny ’ Jones’s homestead in Waikouaiti about 1840. Mr Farquharson felt sure that Mrs Morgan would be as .successful its she had been previously, when showing life on an immigrant ship, and also a goldfields scene when gold was first discovered at Gabriel’s Gully.— (Applause.) The new play, which is called “Tile \ anguard of Civilisation, 55 was tlien prtssented. The opening scene was in front ot the Jones homestead at Waikouaiti Mr Jones, with the aid of a long telescope, was endeavouring to identify two ships in L 1 , . s-i "Ti-cli were heading in for’ Llneskin Bay. The vessels, which proved to be an American corvette and a British barque, with passengers for Nelson, found anchor. The sailors from both vessels amt also the passengers, landed in boats, and were welcomed at the homestead with ! - 1’ I lie visitors had just ■finished their repast when Pilot Dick Pricer arrived, from Taiaroa Heads accompanied by the Rev. Mr Creed. The gathering was a very plo-saiU one Did , quaint and interesting incidents were shown.
