ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
THE WESTWARD FLIGHT. SOUTHERN CROSS TO TRY. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) NEW YORK, April 24, (Received April 20, at 1.30 a.m.)_ Squadron-Leader Kingsford-Smith, who is sailing to-morrow for Amsterdam, has decided to fly the Southern Cross across the Atlantic, and he will take off from Ireland, whence he intends to take, the machine under its own power, possibly within a period of five weeks. Once ho gets to Ireland he will wait only for good weather before making a westward hop. He conferred with Mr Fokker here to-day and ho feels that, apart from inextensive repairs to one wing, there is surprisingly little needed in the way of alterations to the Southern Cross, and lie is confident of success. He will carry a radio man, a navigator and possibly a co-pilot. It is understood that the navigator will bo one of tlie most experienced American transoceanic aviators,
