MOLESTED AT NIGHT.

WOMEN HELD UP. ONE STRUCK ON HEAD. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, April 24. Two cases of women being molested at night in the Mount Eden and Mount Roskill districts have been reported, to the police and are at present being investigated by detectives. One case was of a serious nature. A young woman employed as a typiste in the office of a city firm was attacked by a man in Royce avenue, a lonely, ill-lighted part of the Mount Eden district known as "No Man’s Land,” about 8 o’clock on Easter Monday night. The young woman, who resides in Carlton Gore road, was on her way out to visit her brother, who lives in Royce avenue road which cuts through the old bluestone quarry. She alighted from a tram at Dominion road and was walking along Royce avenue when, without warning, she was savagely assaulted by a man who had crept up behind her. Describing the assault, the girl saidt. “ I heard footsteps behind me, but before I could turn round I was struck a heavy blow on the back of the head. This felled me to the ground, my forehead striking Hie scoria. _ I remembered nothing afterwards until I regained consciousness shortly after 9 o’clock. When I came to I found that the man who had attacked me had stolen my small purse which I was carrying in my hand. There were only a few coppers and a tram ticket in the purse. Feeling very faint and suffering from violent headache, I managed to get to my brother’s house.” The other young woman, who is also employed in the city, was not actually assaulted. She screamed out when the man annoyed he?. She was walking along Three Kings road, which is a continuation of Mount Eden road, when a. motor car drew up alongside her. A man alighted from the ca r and followed the young woman along the footpath. When he came up alongside her she walked faster, but the man then stood ih front of her and afterwards stepped up against her. Afraid that she would be assaulted, the young woman screamed for help. Her cries were heard by Mr Warren, postmaster and storekeeper at Mount Roskill, whose shop is near by, and he rushed out to her assistance. In the meantime the man ran off.
