BROADCASTING OF MATCHES. DECISION OP CANTERBURY UNION. (Pek United Press Association.l CHRISTCHURCH, April 16. The question of broadcasting Rugbyfootball matches in Canterbury this season came up before the Rugby Union s Management.Committee' last evening, it was decided that the Broadcasting Company should .-be-given permission to broadcast from Lancaster Park on Saturdays, and; at other - times provided all fcraturaay; matches were broadcast. , “The company should not be allowed to pick and choose,” said a member.^ Commenting on the decision, Mr A. R. Harris, genera! manager of the Radio Company, said that this would mean in effect that t!ie company .would not be able to take full advantage of the. recent, decision of the New Zealand Union allow the broadcasting of the British: matches, and those plans would have to be curtailed. , NEW ZEALAND UNION. MEETING OP .'MANAGEMENT, COMMITTEE. . (Per United Association.) WELLINGTON, April 16. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union met to-night. Mr Guy Towles, writing from London, regretted that he could not consent to 'the allocation of the Moascar Cup to a competition between teams from the New Zealand Navy. He could see no possible connection between ' the Navy and the Army t6ams wihcb competed for tbo cup at Moascar in 1919. ; Subcommittees for .the ensuing year were appointed as, follows: . Football enthusiasts are looking forward to the opening of the season, and will be pleased to have the opportunity, of witnessing two interesting matches at Carisbrook on Saturday next; .- when Union will meet Invercargill at- 1-45 p.m. The Invercargill team is a strong, side, several - of Southland's leading players being included in it, and Union expects to place a mucli stronger side than usual in the field this season. At 3.15 p.m. the time-honoui’ed Easter fixture between the Alhambra’ and Merivale Clubs will be played, and both sides will, be at full strength. The, public can, therefore, look forward to‘witnessing two very interesting matches. OTAGO REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. ANNUAL MEETING. • . The annual meeting of the Otago Referees’ Association was. held on Saturday night, and there was a record attend-, ance. , • Sir R. C. Torrance presided, and »n traversing the association’s activities during last season, he said that members were to be congratulated on having kept their engagements so loyally. With the large number of matches played, each Saturday now, the demands made on the services 6f members were very heavy, and he hoped that players who were retiring from the game would see their way-clear: to join the association.
