Professor Speight has resigned from the chair of geology at Canterbury College and will in future devote all nis time to the duties of curator of the Canterbury- Museum, which now occupy part ot hia time. , Professor Speight has been for 40 years in the service of the Canterbury College Board.’ He was master in the Boys High School till 1903, when he was appointed-, lecturer in geology. Later ne was given the full professorial rank. Inc Canterbury College Board to-day decided not to appoint a professor in geology, but a full-time lecturer at a salary of £6OO a year.
