BROADSIDING
The Speedway Royal, now a favourite resort for many thousands of the Dunedin public, should be the scene of a great evening’s entertainment when the broadsiding meeting is held to-night. Since Saturday’s meeting the riders have been working at top speed on their machines, and little trouble should be experienced from that quarter. The first item will be a particularly interesting one—the attempt tin the four-lap record by Charlie Spinks, the Australian record-breaker. Spinks’s machine is being specially tuned up. and, as be will shortly leave for England to fulfil engagements he is determined to set up a new record. Another event which should attract considerable attention is the special match race between Eric Whittle, who earned for himself the name of “ Flat Out" Whittle in Wellington, and Charlie Spinks. Whittle gave a taste of bis speed and daring on the bends last Saturday, and to-night the meeting between the two should be a battle royal. Lionel Van Praag has been brought from Christchurch to replace the popular Harry Mangham. who has made the trip to .Wellington to compete in the championships there. Praag. with Jack Young, Charlie Pirata, and Frank Beunish, will be seen in some dashing events. The local riders are developing into really good broadsiders, and their special races in which 7-tisbet. Inglis. Horsier. Dillon. Lyders, Brown.
