TROTTING CLUB.
FORBURY PARK COMMITTEE. A meeting of Hie committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held last night, and was attended by Messrs B. S. Irwin, president (in the chair), James Mitchell, G. J. Barton, H. Hallidav, A. Clark. A. G. Neill, E. Teller, John'Mitchell, R. M. Greensladc, and James Black. The chairman referred to the death of Messrs H. L. James and Peter Miller. Mr James, he said, had been connected with the old Tahuna Park Trotting Chib and the Forbury Park Trotting Club as secretary- for 25 years, and some few years ago he retired from that position In his death he was. sure they all felt they had lost a good and faithful friend. Mr Miller had perhaps been better known as a steward, vice-president, and president of the Dunedin Jockey Club, but he had also been closely associated with the sport of trotting, and in the old days had held the position of their honorary judge. The chairman then moved that letters of sympathy be sent to the relatives of the deceased, the motion being carried in silence.
Mr T. Fogg, handieapper, wrote in regard to the complaint by John M'Quilkan regarding the handicapping of Wild' Voyage at the club’s recent meeting, Mr Fogg stayed that the horse was handicapped on the old system. His best performances at the end of last season were 3.28 from a 3.33 mark (improving his time ssec), and also 3.28 from a 3.32 mark (again improving his time by 4sec). 1 Mr Fogg said he considered he was, therefore, quite justified in placing the horsf on a 3.31 mark.—lt was decided tc inform Mr M’Quilkan of the explanation. H. H. Fraser, secretary of the South Canterbury Jockey Club, wrote stating that his club had decided to race this year on October 16 and 18, and on. June 18 and 20 in 1931, and asking the Forbury Club to protect these dates when making a selection for its coming meet-ings.-—To be informed that the dates would, not clash with those of the Forbury Park Club. J. B. Norris, secretary of the New Zealand Trotting Association, wrote stating that at the last meeting of the association a letter had been received from N. Smith regarding the fine of £5 imposed upon him by the Judicial Committee of the Forbury Park Club. A copy of the letter received from Smith was enclosed. —Smith, in his letter, admitted that he had been driving Combine at the club’s recent meeting with faulty re>ns. His own reins, however, had been stolen from his horse box, and he . had to borrow a pair in order to get out in time for the race. This was the first time he had ever had . a breakage or accident in an experience going as far back as the old Tahuna Park trotting days. He considered, he had been unduly penalised.— It was decided, on the motion of the chairman, that while their stipendiary stewards must inflict proper penalties for pffences against the rules, the committee was agreed that as Smith had not previously offended, the association might favourably consider his application. Mr Greonslade submitted a copy of the programme of the club’s meeting to be held on Thursday, May 8, and Saturday. May 10. The stakes for the two met important races at the meeting will be GOOsovs and CuOsovs. The class in each race will bo 4.30. The total amount of stake money will be £4525. The programme was adopted.
