BRITISH LIBERAL PARTY
DEMAND BY THE LEADER. EXPULSION OP “REBELS.” , (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, March 3. (Received March 3, at 5.5 p.m.) The .Daily Herald says that the fate of Mr Lloyd George and Liberalism and political happenings in Britain in the nest few years all depend on meetings of the Liberal shadow Cabinet and the parliamentary party which are being held on Monday and Tuesday respec- , tively. It is understood that Mr Lloyd George is determined to bring matters to a head immediately, demanding that the 12. “rebels,” the eight who did not vote and the four who voted with the Government in the Coal; Bill division ’’shall'either abide by the .party decisions in a division in the lobbies dr be expelled. It is expected, that the rebels and some others will not agree to complete obedience in a division in the lobbies unless the party undertakes not to defeat the present Government, except on a major issue of conscience. If the party accepts this condition Mr . Lloyd George will probably resign the leadership. If not, Liberal unity in the House of Commons will be definitely ended and the “ rebels,” under Mr Walter Runciman, will cease even to pretend to be united with the Lloyd George party.
