PALMERSTON NOTES.
(From Otib Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON, March 3. There was plenty of sport in and around Palmerston on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, except for a light shower. The Presbyterian and Anglican Sunday Schools held a combined picnic at Bushey, which was well attended. The Amateur Athletic Club held sports on the Domain. There was a district cricket match at Dunback. Meadowbank (Oamaru) Bowling Club played a combined team from Palmerston, Hampden, Waikouaiti, and Seacliff, and won the game by 153 points to 148. The Gun Club had its opening match for the yeir for prizes given by the president and vice-president. GUN CLUB. There were 15 entries for the trophy match of 12 birds, and the best scorers were:—J. Nichol (0), S. Snushall (9), H. Ross (8), A. JEL Cowan (8), and D. Ross (8). In tile fire-off for the ties J. Nichol won the first prize, and S. Snushall the second. A nine-bird sweepstake was then fired. There were 13 competitors, and J. Roy, J. R. Roy, E. J. Kelly, and S. Snushall broke seven each In the fire-off Snushall. missed his first bird, and Kelly broke one and obtained third prize, and J. Roy and J. R. Roy broke two each, and divided first and second-prize money.
