UNITED FIRE BRIGADES.
ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. (Per United Press Association.) WHANGAREI, March 3. Air C. Gilbert, of Onehunga, president of the United Fire Brigades’ Association presided at the fifty-first annual meeting of that body, which was opened at Whangarei this morning. Over 100 delegates a£ fni nded from Ml parts of the Dominion. The roll call showed that 135 brigades were affiliated with the association as at November 30 last. It is stated that the attendance t-f delegates was restricted by the refusal of certain brigades to pay the levy of £1 on all members, due to the Got eminent reiusmg to increase the vote of £4OO for railway fares, which are estimated to cost double that amount.
A civic welcome was accorded to the ill delegates by representatives of the iv hangarci Borough and County Councils and the Harbour Board. A remit that the demonstrations be lield prior to the biennial conferences, instead of vice versa as at present, was negatived.
Another remit that “ Eighteen parades per year shall entitle a fireman to loii-t----service honours ” instead of attendance £t two-thirds of the musters was also lost on the ground that it would tend to clepreciate the value of the honours A Hawera remit to the effect that at least two dressing events be listed irrespective of the Gilbert! Two Wlinngarei remits were carried in the following form:-(I) That the association be asked to draw up a standard plan and specification of a suitable motor reel for use at future demonstrations, and that this be available to all associated brigades. (2) That it be a recommendation to the executive in view of the value of the Came Shield that this be allotted to an extended modern event The round of entertainments arranged comprises an informal social at the fire brigade station on Saturday night swimming sports to-mght, a conversatione tomorrow night general sight-seeing on Wednesday, and a trip to the Waipoua State Forest on Thursday.
