GOOD TEMPLARY.
The Dunedin District Lodge, Iso. 1, held its annual conference in the Trades Hall, Moray place, on Saturday. District Chief Templar Bro. William Dickenson welcomed the delegates from the following lodges:—Star of Freedom, Rescue, Hope of Caversham, Hope of Dunedin. Members of the Pride of Waitati and All Rations were also present, and pleasure was expressed at their being in attendance on this occasion. Six subordinate members were advanced to the district degree, the D.C.T, complimenting them on their forward move. Reports from the various district officers showed the subordinate lodges to be in good standing, with an increase of one lodge and one temple, which were both forging ahead steadily. The election of officers for the ensuing year was then conducted by the grand chief templar, Bro. T. H. Dalton, and resulted as follows:—D.C.T., Bro. William Dickenson (re-elected); D. counsellor, Sister Mrs Gain; D. vice-templar. Sister Mrs Giles; D. secretary, Sister Mrs Anthony (re-elected) ; D. assistant secretary. Sister A. Steedman; D.S.J.W., Bro. James Hilton (re-elected); D. treasurer, Bro. S. Sell; D. marshal, Bro. A. Stanley (re-elected); D. chaplain, Sister L. Baird; D. guard, Bro. William G. lies; D. sentinel, Bro. J. Restieaux; foreign correspondent, Bro. C. Williams; D.S.L.W., Bro. Allpress; D.S.E.W., Bro. J. Robertson; D, pianist. Sister D. Sell; D. auditors, Bros. E. E. Giles and H. Gore; D. reporter, Bro. E. J. lies. The meeting then adjourned for tea. On resuming, the installation was carried_ out by the G.C.T., assisted by Bro. E. J. Ilea and Sister Mrs Bell as installing D. marshal and D.D, marshal respectively. Several of the new officers returned thanks.
At this stage a beautiful shield was handed over to the District Lodge by Sister Mrs Giles for competition among the juvenile temples in and around Dunedin. The district superintendent, juvenile work, Bro. James Hilton, accepted the shield on behalf of the district, and the donor was warmly thanked for the gift. Remits to the Grand Lodge were discussed before being forwarded to the Easter session to be held in Christchurch. After a general discussion on other matters of importance, the D.O. Templar brought the session to a close with the usual ceremonies.
A short session in the Grand Lodge Degree was then held, G.G. Templar Bro. T. H. Dalton conferring the degree on a large number of members.
A fitting finish to the annual session was a combined church parade at the Kaikorai Pr jsbyterian Church, when a large and representative gathering was present.* The Rev. Smith gave a sermon appropriate to the occasion. The prayer was held by the grand chief templar, Bro. T. H Dalton, and the Scripture lesson was read by the district chief templar, Bro. William Dickenson. The Rev. Smith was warmly thanked after the service for his acceptance of the church parade.
The Hope of Caversham Lodge, No. 128, held its wet kly meeting in the Baxter Hall, Marion street, Caversham, Sister Mrs Giles, C.T., presiding over a large attendance of members and visitors from Rescue, Hope of Dunedin, and All Nations Lodges, who were given a cordial welcome. The following members responded, and conveyed greetings from their lodges:—Bro. E. lies (Rescue), Bro. Williams/(Hope of Dunedin), and Bro. Cromarty (All Nations). The following members contributed towards the programmeSisters Steadman, Schultz, G. Thorn, E. Page, and T. Pauli, Bros. Restieaux, Hilton, Cromarty, and G. lies. A vote of thanks was accorded the visitors and those who had contributed towards the programme.
