NO MORE WAR MOVEMENT.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I notice in your issue of February 2o that the New Zealand Welfare League, replying to a letter from Mr Neilson, refers to the No More War Movement as a Socialist-controlled organisation. I wish to make it clear to the Welfare League and to the public that the No More War Movement is non-party. It is controlled by its own members through their elected representatives in conference assembled. To quote from the conditions of membership of the movement: — Membership Is open to men and women of all religions, of all political parties, and of all other interests who believe that war is a crime against humanity and who are resolved : (a) Not to support or take part in any war, International or civil; (b) To work for total disarmament, the removal of all causes of war, and the establishment of a new social order based on the pacifist principle of co-operation for the common good. The following extract from your issue! of February 20 will give some idea of the spirit that inspires this movement: — On the famous _ Cherain-des-Dames, a strategic ridge 20 miles long, north-west of Rlieims, where for months French and Gorman troops fought to death, the survivors will meet again in August. Ten thousand ex-soldier Teutons will join a like number, of Frenchmen on the scene of the epic struggle and solemnly swear an oath to outlaw war for evermore.”— I am, etc., A. Baxter, Chairman, Dunedin branch, New Zealand No More War Movement,
