THE POLITICAL “POT.”
A STATE OF AGITATION. STATEMENT BY MINISTER. (Special to Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, February 27. “ I am sorry that politics are supposed to be discussed here only by the president and the vice-president,” said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr J. B. Donald) at the annual meeting of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to-day. “1 am sorry because there is material for a good speech, but I am not going to touch upon politics very much. Primage is hardly politics. I can assure you that the Government was very adverse to putting on extra duty, and no one wilt be better pleased than Cabinet to see both the original 1 per cent, and addition out of the road. We hope that it will be at no. distant time something else will have to take its place, and I trust it will be something more equitable.” . ‘ c Tlle political pot ” had been agitating a good deal of lute,. the Minister continued, blit that was a good thin" because it showed that the public was interested in politics. A too placid life was not healthy for any community. No party will do any good in this country or anywhere else without its httle trouble,” continued Mr Donald. S lad of an agitation in the political pot. The United Party is not in office because it wants to stay in hut because people want it to, and personally I have no doubt of the outcome. You. may be sure that the present Cabinet is not in office for self, but for the people. When it feels that it cannot serve the electorate it will resign and give someone else an' opportunity?”
