AUSTRALIAN FINANCES
MAIN FACTOR IN CRISIS. MR SCULLIN’S NEW TARIFF, ' i . (United Press Association.) (By Electric :Telegraph—Copyright.) , LONDON, February 26. (Received Feb. 28, at 1.30 a.m.) The Daily Telegraph, in another article on the financial crisis in Australian cities, says that it is the opinion of an unnamed director of one of the principal commercial associations that the hews should be a warning to exporters and shippers to Australia to go warily. Australia's difficulties are worse, but they are not entirely due to the fall in wool and wheat prices. One of the primary factors was Mr Scullin’s new tariff, one result of which was to make it more difficult for Australia to obtain, as in the past, the financial means for her development. Until the Commonwealth Government realises that by restricting imports it is seriously depleting the Customs revenue it previously enjoyed, there is little likelihood of improvement in the. financial position.
