COMMISSIONER WILSON’S ARRIVAL. GENERAL HIGGINS TO VISIT DOMINION. (Special to Bail? Times.) WELLINGTON, February 27. Commissioner Richard Wilson, of the Salvation Army, arrived in Wellington from London to-day, and will attend the annual congress of the Army, which commences on March 5. •** * . ha y e come to New Zealand,” said Commissioner Wilson, “ as the representative of Genera] Higgins, the head of the Salvation Army, who hopes to visit New Zealand, at the latest, in time to attend the annual congress next year. At the conclusion of the New Zealand congress 1 shall proceed to Australia to attend similar gatherings in the various States, " I had special opportunities of meeting New Zealand soldiers during the war,” said the commissioner. “ I met them very frequently both in France and when they wore on leave in England. I used to have Sunday meetings with them. They were a fine lot of fellows. I consider the New Zealanders wercatho best type of men we had. When Hie Now Zealand, Australian, and Canadian contingents came into the war they brought with them many Salvation Army officers ns chaplains, ami that arrangement was welcomed by us, and had a good effect in many ways.
“I say without hesitation,” added the commissioner, " that General Higgins, the new head of the Salvation Army, has been received with acclaim throughout the country. Having been closely associated with him for i,’u years I can say that he is a true mid deeply religions man. On bidding me farewell ho said it was a matter of deep regret that he could not come to New Zealand at present, but be looked forward to visiting this country at an early date.”
