ladies; tournament. SEMI-FINALS AND FINALS. The ladies’ bowling tournament was continued on the Mornington Green yesterday, fine bowling weather being experienced. There was a large number of onlookers during the afternoon. In the final of the singles, between Mrs Easton and Mrs M‘Namara the former gained a strong lead, and at the tenth end was 14 to her opponent’s 7. She maintained her lead, and won with a majority of 10, gaining three shots at the twentieth end, when Mrs M'Namara retired, Mrs Easton is to be congratulated on her very fine display throughout the tournament. Not only has she won the singles, but she is in the semi-final of the pairs, and was also in the rink competition in the semifinal.
The rink game between Mrs Adess and Miss Gray proved one of the most interesting contests anyone could witness. At the eighth head the score was S all, and at the nineteenth head 19 all. Both teams were playing particularly good bowls, and special' mention should be made of the strong game played by the North-East Valley lead, Mrs Thompson. Mrs Sneeston also played a very fine game. The St. Kilda rink deserved its win, on account of the fine game played throughout by all the members of the team. Whenever Mrs Adess' was in difficulties she managed to draw the shot, or, save the situation. : She drew the winning shot in the final. Following are the results of the day’s play:— SINGLES COMPETITION, Semi-Final. Mrs Easton 20 beat Mrs Falck 7. Final. Mrs Eastou 24 beat Mrs M‘Namara 14. PAIRS COMPETITION. Semi-Final. Mrs Heenan 22 beat Mrs Beveridge 13. = RINKS COMPETITION. Semi-Final, Miss Gray 20 beat Mrs Alexander 0. Final. ; Mrs Adess (St. Kilda) 22 beat Miss Gray (North-East Valley) 19. . At the end of the afternoon Mrs -J. Wallace, lady president of the Ladies’ Bowling Association, referred to how enjoyable the tournament had been, and presented most of tRe prizes, included amongst them being a handsome Italian art howl presented by Mr and Mrs J. H. Thomson.
Thanks were accorded the donors, Mr Falconer, who had supervised the tournament, and others who had assisted in various ways. TO-DAY’S PLAY:
The semi-final of the doublfcs will he played on the Mornington green at II o’clock this morning, the contestants being Mrs Walker (St. Kilda) and Mrs Easton (Dunedin), and the winner will meet Mrs Heenan on the same green at 2 p.m. in the final.
