ITALIAN ART
THE LONDON EXHIBITION.
PUBLIC DESIRES EXTENSION,
(British Official Wireless.) (United. Press Association,) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, February 23. (Received Feb. 24, at 5.5 p.m.) The council of the Royal Academy will meet next week to consider the possibility of extending the period of the exhibition of Italian art which is still attracting immense crowds every day. Strong public representations have been made in favour of continuance beyond March 8, which is the proposed closing day, and it is known that Signor Mussolini has sanctioned extension of the loan period until the end of March. There are many difficulties, however, as a considerable number of the pictures are lept by private owners here and abroad. Arrangements for continuing the insurance of these priceless art treasures would also be necessary, and a continuance of the exhibition would, to sonie extent interfere with the plans for the academy’s own summer exhibition. VISITED BY ROYALTY. THE KING LOOKING WELL. LONDON, February 24. (Received Feb. 24, at 8 p.m.) The King, who has seen very little in London since his illness, visited the Italian art exhibition, being accompanied by the Queen, Prince George, and other members of the Royal Family. His Majesty looked remarkably well and walked* as '.firmly as before lus illness. He did not hesitate to make a complete tour of all the rooms, remaining lor more than an hour. The public were unaware of the visit until his arrival, but before the King drove away numbers of people pressed forward to greet nira. He appeared to be _ very pleased and smiled his acknowledgement.
