CIUTHA PRESBYTERY MEETING
The monthly meeting of Clutha Presbytery was held on Friday at Balclutha. The moderator (the Rev. F. M'Donald) presided over a full : attendance of members. : I
According to custom at the meeting preceding Assembly, t the moderator dispensed the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The Rev. T. Knight was welcomed on ms return after a serious illness. ’.The assembly evangelist (the Rev. J. Bissett), being present, was welcomed, and gave a most interesting address on " The Need of the Present Situation,” stressing the necessity of a revival among the churches.
The Rev.- H, H. Barton was elected moderator for the ensuing six months. The clerk laid on the table the resignation of the Rev. H, T. Blair, Milburn, on his appointment as assistant at St. Paul s, Oaraaru. The Rev, A. M'Neur and Mr T. H. Russell testified to the appreciation of the’ people of Milburn of the services rendered by Mr Blair during his ministry.—The resignation was received with regret as from March 31. The Rev. A. M'Neur was ’ appointed interim moderator of Milburn. The Rev. H. H. Barton reported on the visitation of the commission, to Wai* hola relative to the amalgamation proposal. The presbytery was prepared to go forward with the amalgamation provided that a conference was held with the Dunedin Presbytery regarding the supply of various preaching stations. The moderator and clerk, with the Revs. Dr Currie and A. M'Neur and Mr F. Bishop, were appointed as a commission to confer with the Dunedin Presbytery, with the clerk as convener.
. The clerk intimated, that the Home Mission Committee had agreed that Mr J. N, Reid be ordained as a home missionary subject to his giving an undertaking to complete his studies.—lt'was agreed that Mr Reid be ordained on this condition by the ordinary presbytery commission along with the Rev. H. J. BeWs (moderator of the charge) to the Gatlins home mission station.
It was agreed that matters affecting the status of South hlolyneux in connection with tiie ordination of Mr J Parlane be Remitted to the commission, appointed on the question of the amalgamation of Waihola. to confer with the Home Mission Committee.
The representatives to Assembly were finally appointed, viz.;—The Revs. W. R Hume, T. Tweedle, W. T. Evans, E E Andrews A. Morton A. V. G. Chandler, . , Alley. IX S, Mason, and Dr Currie ministers; with Messrs J. Geggie, T. Jobnsen, D Finlayson, A. Hislop. R. Sutherland, D. Blair, and Rev. J. Parlane, ciders.
On the motion of the Rev A Morton seconded by the Rev. H. T. Blair, it was agreed to nominate the Rev, Adam Begg, Timarn, as the next moderator of the Assembly.
The clerk was appointed to the Asscmbjy Committee ou Standing Committees, and the Rov. J. Parian* to that on records.
On the motion of the 5 Rev. A M'Xemseconded by the Rev. H. T. Blair, the Lev. W. K. Hume was nominated as next synod moderator.
The clerk submitted the annual report on balance sheets and statistics, which were all in due order.—Mr Hume was thanked for hts report. The Rev A V. G. Chandler was appointed to the Evangelistic Committee in place of the Rev. H. T. Blair . The clerk intimated that the . tome Mission. Committee had agreed to grants to Gatlins of £ls and to Lovell’s Flat of £ls for student supply.
