BIG MERGER IN AMERICA. LEGALITY TO BE TESTED. (United Press Association.) <By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, February 22. {Received Feb. 23, at 5.5 p.m.) The directors of both corporations announce a 900 3 000,000 dollar merger of the Standard Oil Company of New York and the Vacuum Oil Company, two former units of the Standard Oil "trust," which was dissolved by consent in a decree of the United States Supreme Court in 1911. In a letter to stockholders it is revealed that the Government intends to contest the legality of the merger in the courts.
