GOOD PROGRESS WITH BUSINESS. (Pee United Peess Association.) WELLINGTON, February'2l. The Methodist Conference resumed at the Taranaki . Street Wesley, Church today, the Rev. A.;N. Scott presiding. \ The conference, as the result of . a ballott, elected the following lay representatiyes to the Conference Stationary Committee:—Auckland district:: A. Peak, T. Clark. South Auckland: J. E/ Tidd, ,J. T. Bryant.' Taranaki-Wanganui: T. -P, Hughson, F. Webb Jones.- Hawke’s BayManawatu; J. E. Hpdder, W. Ross. Wellington: W.'H. Johnson, H. Dixon. Nelson: F. H. Southgate, S. Gorman. North Canterbury: A, Williams, H: Holland. South Canterbury: Bruce - Logan, H. G. Bailey Withell, Otago-Southland: D. C., Cameron, P. A. Pearce. Solomon Islands: W, S i MtKay. Extra representative:: R. C. Clark. ■
-The following decisions were made in regard to the boundaries of staffing circuits:: —Panrtmre-Pakuranga transferred Otahuhu; a probationer to-be appointed to Otorohanga; married home missionary as second agent pt Masterton for next yearj Maori. Hill,, separate station; the agent to be withdrawn from Broad 'Bay and Kaikorai and transferred to the Port Chalmers circuit; Tuakau-Ruawai, ' recommended to take probationers' as additional«agents. The good - work accomplished by the Auckland Central Mission was the subject of approving comment/and to further encourage aggressive work .there promises of financial assistance have been'received from business men. It was decided! that the mission be raised to the status of a circuit, and that an ordained and . a married home missionary be appointed..
• the sphere of social work in Auckland much had been accomplished in the relief of unemployment and distress! OvertiOOp had been expended In this direction, 5000 beds and meals provided’ for workless men, and 13,000 parcels of food and clothing distributed.. These efforts had been largely made possible by the generosity of Auckland business men. After a prolonged discussion' the conference agreed, to the - resignation of the Rev. G. J. Laurenson-as assistant superintendent of- home missions. ', . ! . Having completed their probationary course, the Revs. , J, H. Hall and G. R. Harris were unanimously received by conference as ministers in' full connect tion, to be ordained’ during, conference. The, following students were received as ministers on probation:—Revs. J. M. Blight, W. J. Court, J. C. Draper, E. C. Lcadley, M. A. M'Dowell, J. W. Parker, and W. G. Parker.
,It was resolved to grant the application of the Rev. H. L, Blamires to become a supernumerary, and to give the same status for one year to the Revs. A. Mitchell and J. Harris.
The Revs, A. Liversedge and J. E. Parsons. were given leave to visit England this year, and it was resolved that they be accredited as representatives of the New Zealand Conference to. the British Wesleyan Primitive -and United Methodist Conferences. ■
The Rev. F. G. Brown's request to visit England in 1931 was granted. The conference received as candidates for the ministry, to receive theological trainings Messrs B. M'Gregor Chrystall (Wellington district), A. E. Orr (OtagoSouthland district), R. E. Patchett (Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu district), . and Belshazzzar Gina, designated for work in the native‘ministry in the Solomon Islands mission field; the synod of which had nominated him on his appointment to the secretaryship of the conference. . The Rev. H. H. Haslam intimated his wish to be relieved of the duties of secretary after 12 years’ service on the Board of Examiners.—The resignation was accepted, several speakers, paying tribute to the admirable work of Mr Haslam as examination secretary, . The vacancy was filled by the unanimous appointment of the Rev. W. A. Burley,
