ABATEMENT OF NOISES

NEW SOCIETY IN SYDNEY. GOVERNMENT AID SOUGHT. (United' Press Association.) , (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, February 20. A deputation from a new health society sought Government aid toward the abatement of noises. The chief complaint was against trams, motor cycles, motor horns, roosters,' barking dogs, and rock drills, which were described as hideous, and stated to af-c*-public health seriously and cause a loss of efficiency. The of Health (Dr Arthur) sympathised with the deputation, and promised to make representations to Cabinet. He ventured the opinion that jazz and talkies, which he dubbed as “ squawkies,” were even worse than anything the deputation mentioned.
