RHEUMATIC DISEASES
TREATMENT IN ENGLAND. A CHAIN OP CLINICS. (British Official Wireless.) (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) RUGBY, February 20. The Queen will open next Tuesday a special clinic for the specific treatment of rheumatism, which is the first of many to be established throughout the country, principally in the industrial areas, by the Red Cross Society, with the assistance and approval of the Ministry of Health. . It is estimated that 16 per cent, of the industrial disability in Britain is due to rheumatic diseases at an annual cost of £2,000,000 in sick benefits. The clinics are to be equipped with all the latest methods for combating the scourge as recommended ,by a commission which has been investigating the subject in Britain and abroad. Apparatus for massage, special baths, artificial sunlight, and other forms of-electrical treatment are to be made available to the workers within easy reach of their homes.
