NEW’ YORK, February 14.—Sailed: Wlntoh, for Auckland. .( .V » ■ The Calm, which arrived here yesterday morning from Blutf, sailed last evening for Tlmaru and Lyttelton to complete loading for Wellington and Wanganui. The Gale, which arrived last evening from northern ports, is. timed to sail to-night for Oamaru, Tlmaru, and Lyttelton to complete; loading for Wellington, Plcton, and Wanganui, The Waiplata sailed yesterday afternoon for Bluff. She is due back at Dunedin on Tuesday morning to load general cargo, and is timed to sail on Tuesday evening for Tlmaru, Wellington, and "Auckland.. The Opihi is due at Dunedin to-morrow from Wellington, via ports. She will load general cargo on Monday for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth, The Kablka has been fixed to Toad at Westport early next week for Bluff and Dunedin. The Kaitoke, which bad been delayed at Auckland waiting for sugar supplies, was to sail yesterday for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. • The Wlngalul is to. leave Auckland on February 22 with general cargo, for discharge at W’olllngton, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Waipahi Is due at Dunedin on Monday afternoon from Gisborne and Lyttelton, She will load general cargo for Napier and Gisborne. The Norwegian motor ship Ferncllffe .is to load at Gulf of Mexico ports during March for, Auckland and Australian ports. To complete discharge of her cargo of Moroccan phosphate. The steamer Rio Dorado arrived at Wanganui on Thursday from Auckland. Prom Wanganui she is to go to Westport for bunkers arid thence to Makatea to load phosphate. A radio from the Union Company's steamer Waitemata states that she expects to arrive at Auckland from Los Angeles’ to-day. She has .. general cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Bluff, Melbourne, and ; Sydney. The Cumberland arrived at Timaru yesterday to discharge general cargo and .to load return cargo for London. She will, leave on February 19 for Wanganui.
THE MELBOURNE STEAMER. The Union Company advises that the Maheno left Bluff at midnight on Monday for Melbourne, where she Is due this morning. She Is to leave Melbourne again on February 20 for Bluff, Dunedin, Lyttelton, and Wellington, and la due at this port on, February 23.
♦ - TURAKINA'S MOVEMENTS. . Messrs Turnbull, Martin, and Co. advise that the . Turakina is now due at Port Chalmers on Tuesday morning from ’Bluff to load refrigerated cargo and wool. She will sail Anally from tills port on February 21 for London and west of England ports, via FAnama. 1

OTAKI FROM NEW YORK. _ Ca_ble advice received states taht the steamer Otakl arrived at Suva on Thursday from New York. The vessel is en route to Now Zealand, ana is due at Auckland about February 20. r general? American cargo will be discharged at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Ofakl Is under charter to the A. and A. Line. WIRELESS FROM RANGITATA. A radio message received by the New Zealand Shipping Company from the captain of the motor ship Rangitata. which left Wellington on February 8 for Southampton and London, states that the vessel has experienced fresh to strong southerly winds and heavy southerly fi well since leaving New Zealand. The messago also states that all on board are well. CARGO FROM LONDON. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Hororata, which Is.fixed to sail from London on March 20 with cargo for New Zealand, will include New Plymouth In her discharging ports, which will now be,. Suva, Lyttelton. Port Chalmers, Bluff, and New Plymouth. MAUI POMARE’S ITINERARY. It has been decided that on her next voyage from Niue Island with fruit the Government motor ship Maul Pomare will make Auckland the first port of call. About a third of the total cargo will be landed at Auckland, and the balance will Be distributed between South Island ports, unless It Is found that the fruit is in such a condition that further carriage would cause undue deterioration and loss. GOLDEN CLOUD FROM PACIFIC COAST. With general cargo, case oil, and lumber, the Oceanic and Oriental Navigalon Company's steamer Golden Cloud arrived at Dunedin yesterday morning from Pacific coast ports, - via Auckland, Wellington, and,Tlmaru. She was berthed hi the Victoria (wharf, where her freight Is being discharged. The Golden Cloud sailed from Los Angeles on January 1 and experienced exceptionally fine weather on the voyage. The Golden Cloud will sail on February 20 for Honolulu to load for San Francisco. USB OF PULVERISED COAL. Lord Incheape, speaking at a meeting of .the F. and' O. Company In London, referred to a statement that tho company was looking carefully Into the question of using pulverised fuel in the cargo-ships which will need to, be built In tho near' future to replace older vessels. So far. It was declared, there seems every prospect of a successful future for pulverised fuel, especially In cargo steamers. Lord Inchcape supported the view that there would bo a considerable economy In using It In preference to oil, arid he suggested that If and when tho present experiments had proved completely satisfactory, the company might be forced by reasons of economy to Introduce the system into passenger as well as cargo steamers. ■ PERSONAL ITEMS. Captain C. J. Hackworth has been appointed to command of the Oplhl. Captain G. W, Godfrey has resumed command of the Kahlka. Messrs L. Gillan and K. D. Stewart have joined the Otokia as chief and third officers respectively, relieving Messrs W. B, • Jones and D. C. Champion for 'holiday leave. Mr A. B. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Brisbane, from London, via Panama and Lyttelton, arrived yesterday morning. and was berthed at Port Chalmers, where tho Dunedin portion of her Home cargo Is being discharged. The vessel left London on January 31. ■ Three days out from London she ran Into a strong westerly gale which lasted until the vessel reached. within a day of the West Indies. Fine weather then prevailed to Panama,. Panama was reached on January t 6, and tho vessel left the following day. From Panama fine weather prevailed until February 3, when a strong south-south-east wind sprang up. The wind and swell increased to a boisterous gale on February 4. The Port Brisbane laboured In the heavy sea, which .swept over the vessel, bending the railings on the boat deck and carrying away the port gangway. Captain P. ,T. Reynolds is In command of the Port Brisbane,, and his officers are Chief. Mr H. C. Jeffreys; second, Mr R. B. Llnklatcr; third, Mr L. B. Craven; fourth, Mr O. T. Walton: chief engineer, Mr A. O. Brownley; second, Mr T. Redwood; third, Mr C. Polls; fourth, Mr M. Williams; fifth Mr O. Ramsay; sixth, Mr V. Robb; chief refrigerating engineer, Mr Woodman; second, Mr H. Bowman; surgeon. Dr A. J. Ewan; chief steward, Mr J. O’Neil. The Port Brisbane will sail about Wednesday for Bluff, thence Tlmaru and New Plymouth to complete discharge.
