Brown’s stables and-storerooms at Bristol street, Trentham, were totally destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon. The stables were fortunately empty at the time, as Mr Brown was away at the Wanganui meeting with his two horses, but the storerooms contained tools and gear used fay Mr Brown in his business as a builder, and these were lost. An effort was made to fight the fire before it gained full control, and water was brought from a main on the high road,'but the fire was up a side street. The only hose available was old and full of holes, with the consequence that not a great deal of water actually reached the fire.
