Mr MacDonald, in a message to the electors for the Brightside Division of Sheffield, which is vacant through Mr Arthur Ponsonby's elevation to the peerage, claims that the Government has successfully pursued a policy which was commanding general approval. It upheld legitimate British interests, but had taken every step to improve relations, and strengthen the foundations of assured well-organised peace. At. present it was participating in,a vital conference which was seeking to limit and reduce naval armaments. In this great task it was essential that the Government should have tht backing of the British people. "We appeal to the electors of Brightside to encourage us with an unmistakable vote of confidence," he concluded. '
