THE SHARE MARKET. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. A parcel of 44 per cent. Bonds, 1941, was disposed of at £99 13a on the Stock Exchange yesterday, the market closing with buyers offering £99 10s and sellers asking £IOO. Two transactions in 44 per cent. Inscribed Stock, 1938, were also recorded at £99 10s, but at the close i the market neither buyers nor sellerswere interested. E.S. and A. Banka were in stronger demand at £6 17s 6d, but sellers • would not agree to accept less than £7 Is. Sales: 44 per cent'. Bonds, 1941, £99 15s; 44 per cent. Inscribed, 1938, £99 10s (two). The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week:— Butter.—The market is . firm., Quotations are: 150 s, 158 s. Cheese.—The market is firm. Quotations are: Coloured, 85s; white, 87s. Frozen Meat.—The market for wethers is firm and there is a good demand. The market for ewes is fairly well supplied, and moderate business has been done. There Js ! little business doing in lambs, but the market is firm. Beef prices are . also firm. Ox hinds, 6|d to 7a her lb; ox fores, 4|d to 6d per lb. Cow hinds, 51d to 6d; cow fores, 4Jd to 444-' • SHIPMENTS OF BANANAS, j; LARGE CONSIGNMENT IN AUCKLAND. (Special ro Daily Times.) AUCKLAND, January 20. There will be a slight reduction in the prices of bananas in the city when the shipment which arrived by the Tofua is placed on the markets. The Tofua brought 9000 cases of bananas. ' Whether these will all be available for distribution in Auckland province will depend upon the condition of the cargo which reached Wellington by the Maui Pomare on Sunday. The Maui Pomare cargo, which included 6500 cases consigned to Auckland, had showed signs of being over-ripe, and it is now considered unlikely in local fruit circles ,that any of the shipment will be sent north. It is expected that the cargo will be distributed in the South Island. The Tofua’s shipment of 9000 cases, although considerably below normal, is an improvement on that of last month. This increase, stated a prominent fruit dealer, will continue steadily through, the year until thff normal supply is again reached. Shipments of bananas from Fiji are steadily increasing, and the latest reports from the flooded areas indicate that no time has been lost in planting new crops to replace those which were lost. The outlook for the next 12 months is, therefore, an optimistic one.
