Mastcnnnn,widow of an ex-member of Cabinet, lecturing on how to encourage modern poets, related that a young man walked into a London newspaper office on a wet evening with water squelching from his boots and the soles parting from the uppers and asked to be given some book-reviewing. He was allowed to take a book. Some hours later he returned with some copy which the editor accepted. Lingering a minute the jouth asked if lie could have immediate payment. When asked his name he replied, “John Masefield.”
