LOWER HARBOUR NEWS.
A large number of people from Dunedin and other places spent the holidays at the Spit, and the popular harbour resort appears to have been controlled by a hand of enthusiasts during Christmas and New Year. The place has been named Aramoana, and the enthusiastic visitors were quite serious when they formed a township council. The council consisted of Messrs W. Wilson, J. Hanby, W. Love, J. Jamieson, L. Collier, G. Gosney, T. Wilkinson, D, Lindsay, and J. Thompson. The official caterer for all functions arranged by the council was Mrs M'Donald, and a well-known resident of the Lower Harbour supplied the township with fresh milk daily. One of the first duties of the officials will he the improvement of the Aramoana main road, which is in a deplorable state. Motor cars carrying visitors to the township from Port Chalmers have been almost buried to the axles, in the soft earth. Several building permits were issued during the holidays. The residents had a merry time during the New Year fastivities, but one and all conducted themselves in a highly creditable manner. The residents were very businesslike, as they elected Mr B. R. Rennie as chief executive officer of Aramoana for the holiday period. Mr Rennie has taken a keen interest in the affairs of the district for some time past. During the two previous festive seasons Mr J, H. Crawford held the position of chief executive officer of Aramoana, but as he did not put in an appearance this year, he was compelled to relinquish the office. The residents also displayed business acumen when they elected Mr G. Thompson as town clerk, and this official had a busy time during the holidays. Other executive officers elected were Messrs W. Cashman, P. Gosney, A. L. S. Cassie, A. Gosney, and J. Barclay.
