BRITISH CONSERVATIVES

NEW LEADER ADVOCATED. LORD BEAVERBROOK. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, January 5. (Received Jan. 6. at 10 p.m.) To-day one of Lord Rothermere’s newspapers, the widely circulated Sunday Pictorial, gives great prominence to an article which frankly advocates Lord Beaverbrook for the leadership of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister, “ All parties suffer from bad leadership, but Mr Baldwin as Leader of the Conservatives possesses a record of incompetence, disaster, and blundering. His only defenders are a small clique of personal friends, and the remainder of his folkwers criticise him openly and bitterly. The rank and file demand vigorous, successful leadership, and they are ■ cohvinced that a leader must be found outside the established hierarchy.”

All this explains why ‘ Lord Beaverbrook and his Empire crusade attract adherents.
