NEW ZEALAND CHAMPION LEAVES FOR AUSTRALIA. (Special to Dailt Times.) WELLINGTON, January 4. I. W. Cameron, one of New Zealand’s foremost swimmers, left by the Marama yesterday for Sydney, where he is taking up an appointment with a business firm. Us loss of this young champion is a severe one to New Zealand, as Cameron is one of the most distinguished performers produced in this country, having carried off Dominion honours in the junior and then in the intermediate grades. He entered the ranks of the seniors last 'season, although ojily 18 years of age, and not only did he win the Wellington and New Zealand 100 Yards Championships, but he also broke tho record, his New , Zealand record time being 65 4-ssee. Although not eligible to hold Australian championships, Cameron, it is expected, will compete at the Australian championship meeting. Another New Zbaland swimming champion who has gone to Australia is Miss Ena Stockley, but since her arrival in Sydney she has not taken part in any swimming competitions. According to her brother, who is on a holiday visit to New Zealand, Miss Stockley will probably enter for the 100 Yards Free Style Championship of New South Wales. NEW RECORD BY MISS MILLER. At the Gisborne Swimming Club’s car-’ myal last night, Miss Kathleen Miller, Wellington, broke Mias Paulino Hoeft’s 150 yards ladies’ New Zealand record of Imin 52sec, by covering the distance in Imm 50 2-ssec.
