As a result five arrests were made at Hamilton, while effected at Morrinsville. Ma tamata, Rotorua, and Te Puke. The raids, which were on an organised basis, were_ the largest ever conducted in the Hamilton pohcc They were earned; out with precision" and thoroughness, were over before any of the owners of the raided premises bad an opportunity, of informing others of the police operations. -

The,. magistrate- (Mr Wvycrn Wilson) sam .that were parasites and should be rigidly put down, :He referred not only to the large blit to the small bookmaker. The small bookmaker lived on the working man, who could least afford to keep. him. The magistrate warned .the licensees of hotels against permitting bookmakers on their premises. The licensees, he said, were liable to jeopardise their licenses by allowing that sort of thing to continue. ° - At Morrinsville, Stephen Bain was fined £IOO for keeping a common gaming house. , . ’
